New Jersey's only semi-professional six man football team, the Bayshore Brawlers, is looking for experienced high school, college or professional athletes to continue the winning tradition that was set in 2006. The meeting will be held at The Office Beer Bar & Grill in Keyport on Feb. 10 and will begin precisely at 11 a.m., so all interested players are encouraged to arrive early. With players from last season's championship team being offered professional indoor football contracts, this is a great opportunity to be seen and receive a chance at the next level.
The Bayshore Brawlers are coached by former Division II All-American Will Smith, and former San Jose Sabercats practice squad member Frank Susino, and play their home games at the Tab Ramos Sports Center in Aberdeen. Six-man football uses a blend of NFL and Arena Football rules and regulations; the games are played on a field 50 yards in length and 35 yards wide.
Currently The New Jersey Football Officials Association (Central Jersey) is currently seeking new members to officiate High School Football games in the central Jersey area for the upcoming 2007 season. Individuals must be over the age of 18 years old and able to work sub-varsity games on Mondays and Fridays at 3:30 p.m. Other assignments are available on Friday nights, Saturday and Sundays. Positions: clock operators, chain crew members and field officials. Training is provided for free. Applications must be filed by March 1 to be able to officiate in the 2007 season. Contact Thomas Paulikas at (732) 446-8794 or njfoa@verizon.net for more information.
St. Rose High School is pleased to announce plans to host the 28th annual "Run for the Roses" Grammar School Invitational Basketball Tournament. The "Run for the Roses" Tournament, a Jersey Shore tradition for the past 27 years, has been a showcase for some of the finest young basketball talent in New Jersey. Back in 1979 St. Rose High School created a tournament with the goal of attracting a small field of teams to a post-season competition that would emphasize both quality play and good sportsmanship. Since then the "Run for the Roses" Tournament has grown to become one of the largest tournaments in the state, and the premier elementary school basketball tournament at the Jersey Shore. The tournament, sponsored by the St. Rose High School Athletic Club, is open to elementary school teams from Monmouth and Ocean counties. The tournament begins the last weekend in February and continues for approximately three weeks. The deadline for applications is Feb. 8. For information or an application please e-mail the St. Rose High School Athletic Club at burke6161@aol.com.
