RUMSON -- From coast to coast, more than 45 million readers, young and old, took part in the nation's largest reading celebration - the National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America Day March 2.

Launched 10 years ago as a way to get children excited about reading, Read Across America has grown into a yearlong program that culminates each year on Dr. Seuss' birthday.

In a weeklong celebration, Deane Porter School students celebrated reading with special guests from the community as well as radio DJ Brooke Connolly from 106.3 FM G Rock.

On Thursday, March 1, Connolly treated students in grades kindergarten through third to a special reading of their favorite Dr. Seuss book, "Green Eggs and Ham."

Members of the community including police officers, firefighters, EMS workers, members of the Rumson Board of Education, and staff of Barnstormers Gymnastics contributed their time to read to students and share in this special event.
