Experience the excitement of contemporary and classical piano music at a recital at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at the Monmouth Conservatory of Music, 50 White St., Red Bank. Pianist Augustus Arnone, a member of the conservatory faculty, will perform a program featuring music of Brahms and Chopin, and contemporary composers Milton Babbitt, Frederic Rzewski and Yotam Haber. Phoenix Productions, Monmouth Street, Red Bank, will be accepting registrations for its summer Camp Phoenix for teenagers. Teens interested in musical theater will have the opportunity to study with a professional director, musical director and choreographer over a two-week intensive session that leads to a showcase production of scenes from "High School Musical." Billy Van Zandt and Jane Milmore make their annual return to the Brookdale Community College Performing Arts Center, Lincroft, for their new adult comedy, "You've Got Hate Mail." Performance dates are May 25, 26, and June 1, 2, at 8 p.m., and a matinee May 27 at 3 p.m. A hilarious comedy of errors, the play unfolds around an extramarital affair gone horribly wrong, thanks to a juicy e-mail left sitting on a desktop. Jewelry crafted by Deborah Tiryung Sidwell, fiber and mixed media artist, is on exhibit throughout May at the Oceanic Free Library in Rumson.The pieces incorporate printed fabric, woven and twisted metal and semiprecious stones into one-of-a-kind pieces. By popular demand, the New Jersey debut of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" will return to Asbury Park. The cult, glam-rock performance will return to the historic Baronet Theatre, 205 Fourth Ave., starting Saturday, June 2 for a special midnight performance, and continue with scheduled dates throughout the summer for an unlimited, open-ended run. Aaron Berk, one of the country's most popular stars of "Hedwig," will star in the title role.
This groundbreaking musical tells the story of "internationally ignored song stylist" Hedwig Schmidt, East German, rock 'n' roll goddess, who also happens to be the victim of a botched sex-change operation. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Currently scheduled performances are June 2 at midnight, June 3, 16, 30 and July 7 at 8 p.m., with more being added. The Red Bank Jazz & Blues Festival wants you! If you would like to be a part of the team that makes the magic happen, then be one of the volunteers for the June 1-3 festival. An orientation meeting will be held at Marine Park, East Front Street and Wharf Avenue in Red Bank, Wednesday, May 30, at 7 p.m. A minimum four-hour shift gets you a free T-shirt, food at the hospitality tent and an invitation to the "Volunteer Party" after the festival is over on Sunday.
