      Memorial Day is about honor, duty and sacrifice
            Here is a surprise, I am not going to defend the Iraq war. I won't even explain the importance of the war on terrorism. V.A. budget? Not today. That's because this column is about Memorial Day, a hallowed day that should be about honoring the more than one million men and women who died in the service of this nation in wars and conflicts dating back to 1775.       Traffic fine folly
            New Jersey has increased the fines for falling to present a driver's license when requested to $173. The fine for lack of an automobile registration is also $173, as is a failure to present an insurance card. So it you leave your wallet at home and cannot present all three, then the fine is a whopping $519.

      Many contributed to Elks benefit
            Recently the Red Bank Elks Lodge 233 hosted an Evening of Entertainment to benefit our scholarship, Hoopshoot, peer conference, and other youth programs under the direction of Bill Barnes our scholarship chairman, who has been doing a great job for over 14 years.

      Guadagno's experience a fit for sheriff's office
            U.S. Attorney Chris Christie is right. We need to identify and encourage the election of "reform-minded individuals to municipal governing bodies. From there, formidable candidates for county and statewide seats can begin to develop." In 2005, the borough of Monmouth Beach did just that. Kim Guadagno was elected to the Borough Commission.
