'Newfangled Angles'
An exhibit of collaborative and individual works showcasing digital photo collages, digital photography and photo collages by artists Vicky Culver and Dian Sirkin will open at the West Long Public Library Sept. 4.
York, New Angles, collaborative piece The focus of works in "Newfangled Angles" ranges from the excitement of New York City to the tranquillity of the Jersey Shore and its environs.
"New York, New Angles!" is one of six collaborative pieces in this show in which Lady Liberty keeps silent vigil over the dramatic abstracted architecture of New York City. The angular theme continues in 15 individual works by Culver, of Howell, and Sirkin, a former Freehold resident who now lives in Barnegat.
Sirkin's "Mystical Heron" spotlights an imperious bird patiently in wait, while an archway leads the viewer in to Culver's floral landscape "Hollyhocks."
Culver is part-time director of the Guild of Creative Art in Shrewsbury. Drawing on her background in graphic design and photography, she creates intricate and aesthetically pleasing handcrafted photo collages.
"Hollyhocks" by Vicky Culver Sirkin, who is webmaster for the Freehold Art Society, spent her professional life as a computer programmer. Her skill at manipulating already fascinating subjects, results in ambiguous, colorful and intriguing multilayered images.
The exhibit will run through Sept. 27, with an opening reception from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16.
