Remembering 'The Kid from Red Bank'
In addition to the commemorative sites in Red Bank, which honor the name of William "Count" Basie, I would like to suggest that an official announcement of this musician's date of birth - Aug. 21, 1904, in Red Bank - be mentioned annually in some official announcement.

Life, liberty, the pursuit of property tax reform
Like most Red Bank taxpayers, I am still distressed over the biting tax increase I experienced last year. So it was no surprise to me that most Red Bank property owners were terrorized by the new inflated assessed values on their homes and property.

      Flawed reasoning on development
Iam responding to the ridiculous op-ed piece, "The numbers don't add up." Either one of these scenarios are true: The author assumes that the reader is an idiot. Or, possible she thinks that the owner of Sandy Hook Partners is an idiot. Or maybe she is an idiot. Perhaps all three are true. Her calculations and her argument are so flawed that I had to reply.

      Donovan's ... no deal
Who says Democrats can't be fiscal conservatives?             An overdue comment on the Sea Bright initiative to reduce the summer speed limit on Route 36: Congratulations to the borough of Sea Bright for taking the initiative to attempt to control traffic on state Route 36, reducing the speed limit to 35 mph during the peak summer months. Too bad the borough of Monmouth Beach didn't join the effort.

      Do the job right
AChinese executive manager in a health industry is shot by the government while another in toy manufacturing commits suicide, all because of their poor job performance, which placed millions of worldwide customers at risk. True, China wants to be No. 1 and replace America as the world economic power.

      Repair, don't demolish Highlands bridge
The Highlands bridge has been here forever. It is basically a historic landmark. I go over that bridge at least four times a week and I feel perfectly safe. I've been under that bridge in a boat and never once did I worry about it collaps ing. Ms. Kupper stated that people were self-centered because they do not want their view to change.

      'Moobs' unwelcome sight at beach
Ispent much of the summer at the beach, and I was distressed and, OK, maybe even a little bit self-conscious, to see that many men now seem to have breasts bigger than my own. I kept picturing that Baywatch ad showing lifeguards running in slow motion, except the men were the ones with the bouncing breasts!
