All proceeds will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for leukemia research. ***** Residents of the Seabrook active-adult retirement community presented 75 - 85 handmade blankets to Project Linus New Jersey Inc. Sept. 4. The all-volunteer nonprofit provides blankets and toys to children suffering from serious illness. The blankets are distributed to state hospitals, cancer treatment facilities, health clinics and youth hospice facilities. Seabrook resident RoseMary Cheek, who first organized residents to create blankets in 2000, has made 280 blankets since she began volunteering. Since its inception in 1999, 6,000 members of Project Linus New Jersey have contributed handmade blankets to 125,000 children. ***** Red Bank Elks Lodge 2333 will hold a 9/11 Memorial Service at Riverside Gardens Park on West Front Street. The memorial service will begin at 7 p.m. and will include song by the Chorus of the Atlantic in honor of those lost on 9/11. For more information, contact James W. South Central District of the Elks was appointed at the 143rd Elks Grand Lodge Convention in Charlotte, N.C. Richard J. Kapps, secretary of Red Bank Elks Lodge 233, received the appointment after 20 years as an Elk. He joined in 1987, and has served in many different capacities and was officer of the year three times. He will serve as the district deputy for the oneyear term. ***** The Red Bank chapter of Deborah Hospital Foundation is hosting a bus trip to the Taj Mahal Casino-Hotel in Atlantic City Sept. 20. The bus will depart from Shrewsbury Plaza on Route 35 at 9 a.m. and return at 6:30 p.m. The trip will cost $26 plus an additional $5 for food, with a casino give-back of $22. The event will take place at Hope Church, which is located at 1189 Hope Road in Tinton Falls between Wyckoff Road and Industrial Way West and will run from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. Rain date is Oct. 6. Activities will include an appearance by Mr. Pumpkin and pumpkins, mums, corn stalks, hay bales, crafts and baked goods will also be sold. ***** "Made for You," a shopping event, will be held Oct. 14 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Red lounge, West Front Street in Red Bank. The event will feature 13 vendors selling all handmade items, complimentary drinks and appetizers and free swag bags filled with promotional items. Tickets are $15 with one-third of ticket sales and 5 percent of ad and sponsor revenue going to 180 Turning Lives Around, a Monmouth County nonprofit that provides services to victims of domestic and sexual abuse. One reason is that school was out and children no longer received breakfast and lunch provided by the schools. In response, Diane Turton Realtors launched "A House Is Not a Home Without Food" campaign to benefit the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The goal was to collect at least 2 tons of food by Sept. 15. For every seven items dropped off at one of its 23 offices, the realty firm will match the donation. Donations should include canned vegetables, soup, meats, sauces and fish as well as cereal, pasta, rice and other nonperishables like healthy and nutritious snacks. Front St., Red Bank. The show will be open to the public from 1 to 3 p.m. There is no charge for admission.
