Turkey Bowl benefit will be held Nov. 24

The Turkey Bowl and Jason's Dreams for Kids announced registration is under way for the 2007 annual Thanksgiving Weekend football fundraiser.

Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 24, the event takes place rain or shine at Thompson Middle School in Middletown, running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Turkey Bowl is a 7-vs-7, two-hand touch football tournament open to men ages 18 and older.

The entry fee to take part in this local tradition is $1,000 per team and all proceeds benefit the Red Bank-based charity Jason's Dreams for Kids (JDFK). Each team is guaranteed to play four 30- minute games, advancing to the finals in a bracket format competition.

Receiving team shirts, knit caps and various sponsored merchandise, the teams of up to16 players will also be provided food and beverages throughout the day and team and action photo opportunities.

The main event sponsor is International Planning Alliance, a financial services firm located in Red Bank. There are still sponsorship opportunities available for individuals, local businesses and organizations to benefit JDFK.

Founded in 2000, the Turkey Bowl has raised upward of $150,000 for Jason's Dreams since 2001.

The local charity fulfills wishes of terminally and chronically ill children in Monmouth County and throughout the state.

Teams will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, with deadline for registration Nov. 3.
