What SCHIP expansion is really about
      SCHIP was created in 1997 by Congress and former President Bill Clinton. Its original intent was to cover children in families who made too much to be eligible for Medicaid. This program was supposed to limit eligibility to families making not more than 200 percent of poverty line, $40,300 for a family of four.

Pray for Iraq's new government to start working
      In response to Rob Moir's letter to the editor, Sept. 20. It is possible he did not have a loved one go off to work the morning of 9/11 and didn't return that evening to his/her family. Most of our congressmen wanted action and voted for it. Our representatives went to the U.N. asking for help. Except for a few countries, the international community was not with us.

Stiff sentences for bribes will set examples for officials
      Recently, federal Judge William Walls sentenced a local elected official to serve more time than was expected by certain people. I am sure the judge received the admiration of many people in our county and state. Come the last week in October, several more elected officials and also former employees of Monmouth County are up for sentencing.
