The Monmouth County Library will present "The Velveteen Rabbit," a puppet show based on Margery Williams' classic tale of how toys become real, at two locations Dec. 15. Christopher Hudert, a former Ringling Bros. circus clown-turned-puppeteer, will perform "The Velveteen Rabbit" using puppets, storytelling and song. More ... The tower hill choir of The First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank - Tower Hill, 255 Harding Road, will present part I of Handel's "Messiah," Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. The 50-member choir will be joined by guest soloists Linda Lee Jones, soprano; Reid Masters, countertenor; Kevin Radtke, tenor; and Matthew Knickman, baritone. The Brighton Bar, 121 Brighton Ave., Long Branch, will present the Heart 911 Homecoming Show, sponsored by Bear Stearns, on Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. The show will feature Glen Burtnik, former singer and lead guitarist for Styx; Steel Mill featuring Vini "Mad Dog" Lopez; and Lynam, which is currently touring with Vince Neil of Motley Crue. Salimando, 18, is a senior at Red Bank Regional High School and has earned 24 merit badges. He has held many positions of leadership in the troop, including Troop Scribe. More ... Drexel University, Philadelphia, has announced $5,000 scholarships are now available for military veterans studying full time in undergraduate programs at the university. In honor of Veterans Day, the scholarship amount was increased from $3,000 to $5,000. All full-time undergraduate veterans are eligible to receive scholarships.
