Keep Jazz alive in Asbury Park

Jazz has deep roots in Asbury Park, which was home to many jazz greats including Arthur Pryor, famed composer, trombonist and bandmaster who brought ragtime music to Asbury Park, and the great jazz pianist Fats Waller.

Due to the ongoing revitalization, late last year another venue for jazz closed. In response, the Monmouth County Arts Council in collaboration with the Jazz Arts Project and Black Box of Asbury Park are partnering to keep jazz alive in Asbury Park!

"JAZZ Alive Asbury Park" is a new series running from January through June providing a monthly jazz evening to re-establish the jazz scene in Asbury Park.

Performances are at 8 p.m. on the second Friday of each month at the Joyful Noise Café, located at 1400 Asbury Ave. Admission is $8 and tickets are available at the door.

Jan. 12 , Dorian Parreott Trio.

Feb. 9, The Bruce Williams Quartet with Bruce Williams on sax.

March 9, The Mayor's Players.

April 13, TBA

May 11, Nu - Horizons with Talib Zain on saxophone.

June 30 & July 1, Asbury Park Jazz Festival.
