Rumson show house event to benefit VNA

Scothigh Farm
The public can get a look inside Rumson's largest private estate during the month of May, when Scothigh Farm is opened to the public as a benefit for the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey.

The interior of Scothigh Farm will get a makeover by 35 leading interior designers who have been selected to design and furnish it as a Stately Homes By-the-Sea designer show house.

Formerly the Metcalf Estate, the 11,000-square-foot colonial revival house was built in 1926 for Manton B. Jr. and Isabella Metcalf as a summer retreat. Built at the height of the Jazz Age and the "Great Gatsby" era, the estate was the scene of large and lavish parties. Set on 30 pristine acres, the estate is the largest privately owned property in Rumson.

Some of the designers are local, like Suzette Donleavy of Well-Designed Interiors, Shrewsbury, and Eli Dweck, Oakhurst.

The Stately Homes By-the-Sea Show house is sponsored by the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey to benefit its home health services and community-based programs. VNACJ provides health care services to more than 100,000 people each year in Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean counties. Special events and charitable donations make it possible for the agency to provide care regardless of a family's ability to cover the cost.

The show house will be open to the public Tuesday through Sunday, May 1-31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A number of special events will be held in connection with the show house, including presentations by some of the designers. A boutique and cafe will be open on the grounds. Show house tickets will be available for $35 at the door, $25 if purchased in advance, and $20 for seniors. To reserve tickets, call the VNACJ special events office at (732) 224-6791.
