Obituaries Thomas A. Lee Jr. Mr. Lee, 75, of Red Bank, died March 25, 2007, at St. Barnabas Hospice, Long Branch. He resided in Fair Haven for 40 years, prior to relocating to Red Bank. He was a communicant of Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven. he enjoyed time with his family. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Joanne Murphy Lee in 2005. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas A. and Kecia Lee III of Malvern, Pa., and John J. and Jean Lee of Little Silver; a daughter, Elizabeth L. Nixon of Stony Brook, N.Y.; a sister-in-law and her husband, Virginia O'Brien and Dr. Fred O'Brien of West Hartford, Conn.; and six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Church of the Nativity. Interment was at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Wall. Arrangements were by John E. Jane H. Hendrickson Bartlett Mrs. Bartlett, 87, of Matawan, died March 16, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in New York City, she resided in Lakewood for 25 years, and Red Bank, prior to relocating to Matawan. She was a salesperson at Village Furniture, Lakewood, for 10 years, retiring in 1990. Prior to that, she was employed at Wynkoop Antiques & Interiors, Red Bank. A former outboard racing champion during the 1940s and 1950s, she was a member of the Antique Power Boat Association, and Antique Outboard Motor Club Inc. She is survived by two daughters, Katherine Bartlett of Midlothian, Va., and Susan Trautvetter of Aberdeen; and three grandchildren. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Hazel D. Weston Mrs. Weston, 83, of Red Bank, died March 13, 2007, in Monroe. Her husband, Roy G. Weston, died in 1974. Surviving are two brothers, Harold W. DeLisle of Boulder, Colo., and Robert J. DeLisle of Red Bank; a sister, Carol D. Meyers of East Brunswick; and two nieces, Nancy L. Meyers of Virginia and Lesley A. Kinder of Colorado, and a nephew, Hayes M. DeLisle of Montana. Services and interment were held at Rahway Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Clifford John Sharkey Mr. Sharkey, 84, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., died Feb. 19, 2007, at the VNA/Hospice of Monroe County, East Stroudsburg. He was born in County Roscommon, Ireland. He was executive vice president of Nutley Savings and Loan, retiring in 1982. Prior to that, he was president of Monroe Savings and Loan, Newark. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific, fought in the Battle for Okinawa, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal with four stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two stars, the American Theatre Medal, and the Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a 25-year member of St. Mathew's Roman Catholic Church, East Stroudsburg, Pa. Prior to that, he was a 50-year member of St. Cassian's Roman Catholic Church, Upper Montclair, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He served as chairman of the board of the New Jersey Savings and Loan League, and as president of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board of N.Y. He enjoyed golf, skiing and gardening. He was predeceased by his first wife, Anne Marie Sharkey. He is survived by his wife, Violet Hope Jones Sharkey; his children, Cliff Jr. and his wife Janet of Fair Haven, Marianne and her husband John of Westfield, Terry and his wife Linda of Fair Haven, and Jim and his wife Lisa of Westfield; four sisters, Madeline, Vera, Millie and Joan; and 13 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Cassian's Church. Burial was at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Montclair. Arrangements were by Moriarty Funeral Home, Montclair. Ruth "Diddy" M. Layton Sappah Mrs. Sappah, 82, of Keyport, died Feb. 28, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Keyport, she was a lifelong resident. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Union Beach First Aid Squad. She was predeceased by her husband, George C. Sappah Jr. in 2003. She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and John Kennedy of Keyport; Nancy and Richard Maag of River Bank, Calif.; Patricia and Steven Witt of Modesto, Calif.; and Mary and Lee Gashlin of Bayville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, George and Eleanor Sappah of Keyport, and John Sappah of Maplewood, Minn.; two brothers, Melvin Layton of Florida, and Earl Layton of Lakewood; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Memorial donations may be made to Keyport First Aid Squad, Atlantic Street, Keyport 07735.
