Obituaries Hector Acevedo Mr. Acevedo, 82, of Middletown, died April 6, 2007, at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Holmdel. Born in Puerto Rico, he came to the United States in 1931, and resided in New York City and Red Bank prior to relocating to Middletown. He was employed in housekeeping at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, for several years, retiring in 1984. He served with the U.S. Army 8th Air Corps during World War II. He is survived by two sisters, Margaret Mahler of Middletown, and Anna A. White of New Orleans; two nephews; and three nieces. A funeral service will be April 12 at 10 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
William K. Murphy Mr. Murphy, 66, of Little Silver, died April 7, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Forest Hills, N.Y., he resided in Little Silver the past 36 years. He was vice president at Atlantic Mutual, retiring in 2001. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Caribbean, Dominican Republic, San Francisco and Europe. He enjoyed golf, wine making, coin collecting, and classical and jazz music. He was predeceased by a brother, Harry. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Lola; a daughter and son-in-law, Kerstin and Steve; a son and daughter-in-law, B.J. and Darryn; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Muriel Murphy, and Marie and Jack Pickering; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Irene Murphy; and a sister-in-law, Lou Murphy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be April 12 at 11 a.m. at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. Geraldine T. Colby Mrs. Colby, 79, of Middletown, died April 10, 2007, at Laurel Bay Care Center, Keansburg. Born in Queens, N.Y., she had resided in Rockaway Beach, N.Y., before relocating to the Red Bank area in 1958. She taught business courses at Mater Dei High School, New Monmouth section of Middletown, from 1970 to 1984. Prior to that, she was employed at the Middletown Sewage Authority. Mrs. Colby was a Republican County Committee member from 1960 to 1968, a former secretary of the Middletown Republican Club, and a legislative aide to Sen. Joseph Azzolina. She was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, William A. Colby, in 1987; and three sisters, Patricia Malone, Margaret Neidecker and Eileen Lawlor. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Katie Colby, and Ellen and Bob Fallon, all of Middletown; two sons and one daughter-in-law, William A. Colby Jr. of Matawan, and James and Catherine Colby of Holmdel; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Madeline Castry Mrs. Castry, 86, of Red Bank, died April 12, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., she resided in Charlotte, N.C., prior to relocating to Red Bank nine years ago. She was employed in the food service department at St. John's University, Staten Island, retiring in 1985. She was a former communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, George D. Castry; two brothers, Joseph and Nicholas; and four sisters, Jean, Rose, Marie and Louise. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Bill Murphy of Middletown; two brothers-in-law, Carmine Arcolio and James Litrell; and two grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. James Church. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Emil Louis Jakubecy Mr. Jakubecy, 91, of Gastonia, N.C., died April 9, 2007, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia. He resided in Little Silver, Fair Haven and Middletown prior to relocating to Gastonia. He was vice president at Commercial Investment Trust, New York City, retiring after 42 years. He was a former communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was a life member of Red Bank Elks Lodge No. 233, member of Fair Haven Lions Club, member of the Fair Haven Fire Department for more than 50 years, former president of Fair Haven Board of Education, and Troop Leader for Boy Scout Troop 24, Fair Haven. He was predeceased by his first wife of 32 years, Anna Sinica Jakubecy; his wife of 35 years, Edna Handley Jakubecy in 2006; and two brothers, Carl and Bill. He is survived by two sons, James J. of Lake Wylie, S.C., and Richard E. of Dunwoody, Ga.; a stepson, Tim Strachan of Holmdel; a stepdaughter, Susan Palmer of Lakewood; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Entombment was at Fair View Cemetery Mausoleum, Middletown. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank.
