SARAH KLEPNER Members - official and unofficial - of the Red Storm, the girls team that won the Two Rivers Hoops Basketball League Championship, pose with their trophy and Red Bank Mayor Pasquale Menna after the team received certificates of achievement from the Borough Council. The winning boys team, the Seminoles, also received certificates.
Red Bank Elks Lodge 233, 40 W. Front St., will host a Mother's Day Breakfast Sunday, May 13, from 8.30 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring "Butch's Attic" flea market. Admission is $8, children under 10 free. Proceeds benefit Elks programs for children with disabilities.

Deborah Hospital Foundation, Red Bank Chapter, is sponsoring a bus trip to Trump's Taj Mahal Casino-Hotel in Atlantic City Thursday, May 17. The trip will depart from Shrewsbury Plaza on Route 35 and Shrewsbury Avenue, Shrewsbury, at 9 a.m., and return at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $25, with a casino give-back of $22 plus $5 toward food. Red Bank Elks Lodge 233 recently donated $1,000 to the Ashley Lauren Foundation to Fight Cancer, a nonprofit founded to make a difference in the lives of people with cancer.

Monica Vermeulen's daughter, Ashley, was an energetic 3-year-old when she received a diagnosis of kidney cancer. She lost her left kidney to the disease and endured many grueling years of chemotherapy and radiation. Ashley is now cancer-free and the family wants to help others. The Shrewsbury Garden Club is planning a bus trip to Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, Pa., May 15. The fee is $40 and includes admission to the gardens and bus fare. Lunch may be purchased at Longwood.

Find out about rowing - for fun, fitness or competition - at the Navesink River Rowing open house being held Saturday, May 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, May 27. Navesink River Rowing is located at the foot of Maple Avenue off Front Street in Red Bank. The event features free rowing demos, adult lessons and youth program sign-ups and site tours.

Long Branch will be participating in the 12th annual "Kids Day America/International" on May 19 from noon to 3 p.m. at Festival Plaza in Pier Village.

The event will promote a day of health, safety and environmental awareness and will include food, prizes, face painting, computerized spinal screenings and handouts on child health, safety and environmental issues.

The event will also offer free child ID cards and photos as well as free fingerprinting by the Long Branch Police Department.
