Arts events for N.J. teens

The New Jersey State Teen Arts organization will sponsor workshops, performances and an art exhibit May 21-24 at the Prallsville Mills on Route 29 in Stockton. These events will replace the annual State Teen Arts Festival normally held in May at The College of New Jersey.

The art exhibit will include over 400 entries by teenagers statewide.

The artwork and photography included in the show were selected from schools participating in county teen arts festivals during the school year. The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Monday, May 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is free. Gallery hours through May 24 are 3-6 p.m.

Students representing all 21 counties will be performing in music and theater May 22 through 24 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Admission is free and all performances are open to the public. New Jersey teenagers and arts educators are also invited to register for daytime workshops at the historic mill. May 22 will celebrate the literary arts, May 23 is visual arts day and May 24 will feature photography workshops. Each day begins at 9:30 a.m. and concludes at 1:30 p.m. There is a $25 registration fee, which includes lunch and all workshop supplies. Events on each day are limited to 100 participants.

To register for the workshops, e-mail info@teenarts.org. Events are sponsored by Friends of Teen Arts of Lambertville, with a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
