Audubon bird walk at Sandy Hook Aug. 16

The Monmouth County Audubon Society will hold an evening bird walk Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. beginning at the visitors center at Sandy Hook. Attendees will walk through the dunes to the salt ponds to look for early migrating shorebirds. The free walk will be led by Audubon members. Birds seen regularly on these walks include herons, shorebirds, ospreys and gulls. Participants should bring binoculars and field guides and dress appropriately for the weather.
