The 2007 Newark Black Film Festival, produced by The Newark Museum in conjunction with the Monmouth County Arts Council, will present a free screening of "Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes" Friday at 7 p.m. at the Baronet Theater, 205 Fourth Ave., in Asbury Park. The film explores issues such as women and violence in rap music, representations of manhood in hip-hop culture, rap lyrics and homoeroticism in hip-hop. Portraits by Charles Sills will be on exhibit at the Monmouth Beach Cultural Center, 128 Ocean Ave., through Aug. 4. The Summer Jazz series presented by the Jazz Arts Project will present vibraphonist Joe Locke and pianist Frank Kimbrough Friday and Saturday, 8-11 p.m., at River's Edge Cafe, 35 Broad St., in downtown Red Bank. Locke, considered one of the most gifted vibraphonists of his generation, and Kimbrough, who has performed on several Grammy-nominated recordings, united to bring world-class jazz to Red Bank.
