'Unique Artisans'

From "The Looking Glass" series by Melissa Bronwen Pyle
Frederick Galleries in Allenhurst is showcasing a diverse group of artists working in mediums ranging from silk to steel to create beautiful and functional objects.

The gallery's current exhibition, titled "Unique Artisans," showcases work by Melissa Bronwen Pyle, works in resin; Juanita Yoder, painting on silk; Eric Laxman, glass, wood, bronze; and Faith Hochberg, natural stones, crystals.

The exhibit will run through Sept. 15 at the gallery, located at 111 Main St. in Allenhurst.

Bronwen Pyle, of Spring Lake, is exhibiting nine new works in resin from "The Looking Glass" series. The works incorporate elements, both organic and found, between glass-like layers with kaleidoscopic movement and light.

Pyle blends her training as a textile designer and mixes mediums to bring depth, motion and the unexpected to line, color and form.

Yoder, a resident of Robbinsville, creates paintings on silk for liturgical interiors, public spaces and private collections. Celestial, figurative and natural forms provide the foundation for the imagery in her work. Symbols for the basic elements of fire and water are also used as integral parts in these paintings.

"Hands" by Eric Laxman
Laxman resides in New York State with a working studio in the Garnerville Arts and Industrial Center. His chosen materials of metal and stone become substantial elegant sculptures and functional art. His influences include early modern and tribal art as well as Greek, Egyptian and Buddhist sculpture.

Hochberg, a resident of Lakeville Hills in the Berkshires, is exhibiting her one-of-a-kind "Wearable Art" pieces. Multitoned, abstract and free-form are just a few of the designs she creates for her signature necklaces and accessories with an extensive array of natural stones including antique crystals. The artist also paints in oil and watercolor and recently has begun to create works in the traditional method of Byzantine mosaics.
