Suspect arrested in jewelry store armed robbery

RED BANK - - Borough police arrested a suspect Sept. 4 in connection with a robbery of a Shrewsbury Avenue jewelry store at gunpoint.

Carlos Delevry, 20, of Munson Place, was charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in connection with the July 18 armed robbery of Pequeno Diamante, according to police.

Borough police were seeking two men who fled after taking cash from the store while the two store clerks and the young child of one of the clerks looked on, according to a press release from the Red Bank Police Department.

Initially, the suspects entered Pequeno Diamante and browsed around at the jewelry, then left the store and returned a few minutes later, according to the press release.

One of the clerks assisted the men upon their return, and one of the suspects, according to police, the taller of the two, took out a handgun and announced a robbery.

Bail was set for Delevry at $107,500 and he was committed to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold Township, according to the press release.

Borough police are still investigating in order to identify the second suspect involved in the robbery, according to the Aug. 9 press release.
