Little Silver mayor faces election challenge
Rumson's Ekdahl running unopposed for second term
BY MELISSA KARSH Staff Writer
Mayoral elections will occur in both Little Silver and Rumson Nov. 6, and both borough councils will have two open seats to fill as two, threeyear council seat terms expire for each.

Little Silver Mayor Suzanne Castleman, Crest Drive, a Republican, is facing a challenge by unaffiliated candidate Tony Trufolo, who has thrown his hat into the ring.

Trufolo, Pinckney Road, has filed a petition to run for mayor, according to Borough Administrator Mike Biehl.

Castleman has been mayor since 1994 and before that was a member of the Borough Council since 1984.

The two council seats up for re-election in Little Silver currently belong to Republicans Stuart Van Winkle, Lippincott Road, and Declan O'Scanlon, North Vale Avenue.

Both men were appointed to the council in 1994 to fill unexpired terms. While Van Winkle will run for re-election for another full three-year term, 'O Scanlon will not as he has entered the race for state Assembly.

Running for O'Scanlon's seat will be borough Planning Board member and fellow Republican Robert C. Neff, Winding Way South.

Rumson Mayor John E. Ekdahl's first four-year term will expire this year. Ekdahl, Robin Road, a Republican, will be running unopposed for a second term.

The two council seats up for election currently belong to Republicans Joan P. DeVoe, Forrest Avenue, and Joe Hemphill, Buena Vista Avenue. Both candidates are running unopposed for additional threeyear terms.
