Lunch Break to host Shop Against Hunger RED BANK - - Lunch Break, the 25- year-old soup kitchen and more in Red Bank, is hosting a Shop Against Hunger yard sale Saturday, Sept. 29, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 59 Buena Vista Ave. in Rumson. Proceeds will support Lunch Break's programs for low-income families in the Red Bank area. For the gigantic yard sale, Lunch Break seeks donations of small appliances, books, children's items, clothing, furniture, jewelry and toys that are in excellent or good condition. Items can be brought to Lunch Break, 121 Drs. James Parker Boulevard, in Red Bank after Sept. 20. In addition to planning the Shop Against Hunger yard sale, Lunch Break is preparing for one of its busiest times of the year - - Thanksgiving. Lunch Break hosts a complete dinner on Thanksgiving Day for anyone who stops by the community center, usually a few hundred neighbors. It also enables families to sign up ahead of time for groceries and all the fixings needed to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner at home. In 1983, Lunch Break was founded by a small group of volunteers as the first soup kitchen in Monmouth County. Today the nonprofit has evolved into a comprehensive organization that provides hot and bagged lunches, holiday toys and meals, groceries, clothing, health screenings, legal services and referrals to Monmouth County families living in poverty. Lunch Break assists more than 23,000 people a year at its community center on Red Bank's west side. For additional details on making a donation to Lunch Break, call (732) 747-8577 or visit www.lunchbreak.org. The mission of Lunch Break is to assist in an atmosphere of dignity and concern, people who are unable to support themselves and their families. As a community resource, Lunch Break is committed to meeting the critical needs of Monmouth County residents living in poverty. |
