NOTES
The Woman's Club of Little Silver (WCLS) will hold a yard and bake sale Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will take place at the clubhouse on Church Street. The sale will feature household items, clothing, toys, as well as home-baked goods. Fifty-fifty raffle books are currently on sale by club members and tickets are $2 or $10 for a book of five. Proceeds of the fundraiser go to the Wounded Soldiers of New Jersey for telephone cards. Members are still collecting canceled stamps and old costume jewelry to be converted into charity funds. Business meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the clubhouse. New and prospective members are welcome to join. For more information, contact Diane Ledig at (732) 747-5434 or at dianeledig@ aol.com. ***** "Afternoon at Riverwind," Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey's 16th annual country fair for children, will be held Sunday, 1-4 p.m. Formerly known as '"An Afternoon at Jolly Cackle Farm," the fair will be held at Riverwind, 700 Navesink River Road, Middletown. The rain date is Oct. 21. This year's fair features popular children's events, including clowns, pony and train rides, petting zoo, a magician, the "Pirate Bounce," and a live snake show presented by the Monmouth County Park System. In addition, there will be music, arts and crafts, and lots of food and refreshments. Advance tickets are $125 per family and include all activities and food. Tickets are available by calling the VNA office at (732) 224-6791. Tickets on the day of the event are $150 per family. Riverwind is sponsored by the VNACJ Children's Auxiliary, which raises funds to benefit the agency's many services for children in need. ***** Judith Stanley Coleman, a lifelong resident of Monmouth County, was honored by the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders as one of the original founders of the Monmouth Conservation Foundation, where she has served as president for more than 25 years. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the foundation, which has preserved 6,000 acres of open space and farmland and has been working to protect the natural resources of Monmouth County. |
