Mahon wins Oceanport mayoral seat
Republican incumbents prevail in Fair Haven, Rumson, Shrewsbury
Amajor upset was scored in the borough of Oceanport's municipal election, where incumbent Mayor Lucille Chaump, a Democrat, lost her bid for re-election to her Republican challenger, Michael J. Mahon.

In a hotly contested election, Chaump drew 1,110 votes, despite last-minute campaign strategy that saw her go to Washington, D.C., to stump for Fort Monmouth. Mahon, a former councilman, drew 1,144 votes to win the seat.

Republican Joseph A. Irace, in his second run at a council seat, drew 1,164 votes, and incumbent Democrat Councilman Gerald J. Briscione, with 1,158 votes, won re-election, both to three-year terms, fending off challengers by a comfortable margin.

In a story in the Nov. 15 issue, page 7, the political affiliations were incorrect. Also, Irace was a newcomer, not an incumbent as reported.
