Fire co. Christmas tree sale promotes fire safety TINTON FALLS - Celebrating their 10th year of selling Christmas trees, wreaths, pine rope and grave blankets, Tinton Falls Fire Co. No. 1 is looking forward to another strong fundraising season. "It's our biggest fundraiser of the year," said Brendan Tobin, borough councilman and volunteer firefighter, In a refreshing alternative to many Christmas tree vendors, the firefighters of Tinton Falls Fire Co. No. 1 value the safety of providing fresh trees, cut the day before and the day of pickup, and personally picked up and delivered by the company's volunteer firefighters. "As firefighters, we know that dry trees are fire hazards," said Tobin, "So we do our part to make Christmas a safe and a happy time by providing truly fresh cut trees." This is an important fundraiser for the fire company, consisting of about 30 to 35 volunteers. All proceeds support the company, going toward building and equipment upkeep. Located at the firehouse at 695 Tinton Ave. at the corner of Tinton and Sycamore Avenues, the fire company has a wide assortment of trees available in sizes ranging from 3 to 15 feet. The lot is open weekends from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and weekdays from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is also a drop off point for Toys for Tots, accepting any new and unwrapped gifts. "We have a blast," said Tobin. "We have great trees, great music and a lot of regular customers coming back every year. You get a nicer tree while helping your local fire company." |
