      Annual 'Step Up for The Arc' walk May 17
            The Arc of Monmouth, Tinton Falls, will hold its 10th annual "Step Up for The Arc" walk May 17 at Liberty Park II, Tinton Falls. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the walk at 10 a.m. There is no fee to register, but walkers are encouraged to donate $50 or more and receive a T-shirt.

      Stroke screenings to be offered May 16-23
            The American Stroke Association will hold "StrokeAlert!" stroke risk screenings statewide May 16-23. The assessments are designed to educate the public about stroke, its warning signs and risk factors, and preventative steps. Family history will be reviewed, personal risk factors discussed, and patients will receive assessments such as blood pressure and pulse checks.

      Audubon Society field trip at Allaire May 3
            Monmouth County Audubon Society will host its annual field trip to Allaire State Park, Wall Township, May 3 from 8:15 a.m.-noon beginning in the park's parking lot (rain or shine). Attendees may see migrants such as the scarlet tanager, rose-breasted grosbeak, flycatchers and almost 15 species of warblers.

      Deadline May 2 to apply for EMACC scholarship
            The education foundation of the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce (EMACC) has announced its 2008 scholarship program, with deadline to file May 2 for one of the $1,250 scholarships. Students entering junior or senior year of college, adults returning to college and individuals pursuing vocational interests are eligible to apply.

      Basie Foundation ladies golf classic May 12
            The Count Basie Theatre Foundation will hold its annual ladies golf classic May 12 at Colts Neck Golf Club. Registration and a continental breakfast will be at 7:30 a.m. Three ways to participate will be offered: a clinic and range work for individuals new to golf, an intermediate level with a clinic followed by a nine-hole scramble, and a competitive 18 hole.

      Photography contest winners announced
            The fourth annual high school student photography competition sponsored by the Ocean Camera Club attracted 738 photographs from 326 students representing 29 high schools throughout Ocean and Monmouth counties. The judging was held April 5 at Lakewood High School.
