An encore presentation of "Greetings FromAsbury Park" will be aired on NJN 8:30 p.m. FridayMay 23. The programwill be rebroadcast onWednesday,May 28, at 11:30 p.m. This special edition of NJN's award-winning "State of theArts" series examines the history and culture ofAsbury Park fromthe 1870s to the present against the parameters of religion, race, real estate, and rock 'n' roll (or ragtime, depending on your generation). The viewer will see how these four elements link the city's past to its present, often converging in surprising ways. "State of theArts" airs every Friday at 8:30 p.m., followed by an encore presentation eachWednesday at 11:30 p.m. The current episode of "State of theArts" can be viewed online at www.njn.net. Pacific Encore Performances will present a program of the world's most belovedmelodies, fromBroadway to theMet, inWeillRecitalHall atCarnegieHall inNew York City at 8 p.m. June 12. The concert will be a "sneak preview" of the ensemble's upcoming segment onNJN's "State of theArts" to be filmed this summer at Wilson Hall at Monmouth University. The Red Bank Jazz & Blues Festival, whichwill take placeMay 30, 31 and June 1, and sponsors the Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Foundation (JSJBF), is in need of volunteers. Anewmusical comes toNew Jersey with the Monmouth Civic Chorus production of
"Golden Gate." Set in San Francisco in the 1930s, "GoldenGate" tells the story of a family traveling to the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge on a journey of discovery and reawakened hope. The music is a road trip from retro to pop, with sounds of the Jazz Age and 1990s Broadway. With music by Richard Pearson Thomas and book by Joe Calarco, the world premiere of this concert version, led byDr.Mark Shapiro,will be performed at 3 and 8 p.m. on Saturday,May 31, at the Middletown Arts Center, 36 Church St. Tickets are $25, $22 seniors, $20 groups, $5 students.
