'Gimme Shelter' building event slated for June 21

The Monmouth County Society for the Prevention ofCruelty toAnimals (MCSPCA) will hold its second annual "Gimme Shelter" doghouse building event in memory of Leo at 9 a.m. June 21. The eventwill be at CMX, Manalapan, where volunteerswill build doghouses for animals left outside without adequate shelter.

MCSPCA cruelty investigators have come across many cases where animals are denied the shelter that is required by law and, consequently left outside to endure extreme weather conditions. The houses built by the volunteers will be distributed by cruelty investigators and will provide immediate and necessary relief for these animals.

The MCSPCA has spotlighted one outside dog in particular that was the victim of neglect and abuse and nearly died fromlack of shelter, food and water. Due to the suffering he endured before being rescued, his life was shortened significantly. Many dogs are not as lucky as Leo and never receive the care and love that dogs need, according to MCSPCA. "Gimme Shelter" is designed to help raise public awareness of the problem and decrease the number of tragic outcomes.

Supplies, donations, and other resources necessary for the event and to build the houses were provided by the Coalition for the Monmouth County SPCA, CMX, CMX Community Foundation, H.I.B. Planning and Benefits, Slocum & Son, Maryann Small, Janella Pini, Charles Klimas, Bain's Hardware, Lowe's ofMarlboro and theMonmouth County Vocational School.
