Police unable to avert suicide
RED BANK - Borough police were unable to arrive in time to prevent a 22- year-old borough male from committing suicide on June 9, according to First Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Peter E. Warshaw.
Russell T. Jackson, of West River Street, shot and killed himself on the Red Bank Primary School property, according to Warshaw.
Police arrived on the scene at 11 p.m. and saw Jackson shoot himself, Warshaw said.
"Police received a 911 call reporting a suicidal individual. They arrived on the scene but were not there in time to prevent Mr. Jackson from harming himself," said Warshaw on June 12.
Jackson was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he was pronounced dead at 11:45 p.m., according to Warshaw.
He said there was nothing suspicious about the incident.
"The family wishes to express the importance of the ongoing communication that should be taking place between our children, families, and school personnel to maximize resources within our schools and community," said Red Bank Public Schools Superintendent Laura C. Morana in a letter to the school community about the incident.
According to Morana in the letter that is posted on the schoolWeb site, the school crisis team is available to talk to students and answer any questions they may have.
