Working in White
"White Floral #1" ' Working in White," an exhibit of recent paintings by local artist Jon Peters, will be on view in the lobby of the Two River Theater in Red Bank, where an opening reception will be held Saturday at 9:30 p.m. following the opening night performance of the play "Art" by Yasmina Reza.
The exhibit will remain in the lobby through Oct. 19 with a portion of sale proceeds benefiting the Two River Theater Company.
What will be taking place onstage is "Art," a brilliantly funny play about friendship and art that revolves around a (nearly) all-white painting that ignites an escalating argument among three middle aged men threatening to destroy their lifelong friendship.
Off stage, the post performance gathering will give theatergoers a chance to view an installation of Peters' recent work all done in white, compliments of Red Bank's Laurel Tracey Gallery, where Peters is a gallery artist.
An artist and a craftsman, Peters creates works that are both paintings and objects.
The paintings can hang on the wall like sculpture, their surfaces may be metal, mounted on wooden frames with emulsions painted on and wiped out, both carefully planned and spontaneous, scraped, and rubbed delicate. They are abstract, but the shapes recall maps, mountains, rivers and harbors.
