Audubon trip to Barnegat Light Jan. 24
      Monmouth County Audubon Society will host a field trip at noon Jan. 24 to Barnegat Light and the Manahawkin marshes. The trip will be led by Audubon board member Michael Casper. Attendees may see snow buntings, horned larks, long-tailed duck and scoters.

First Baptist hosts holiday events
      RED BANK — The First Baptist Church of Red Bank, 86 Maple Ave., invites the community to a Christmas Eve family worship service at 6 p.m. Dec. 24. The church will also offer its annual community turkey dinner noon-2 p.m. Christmas Day. The event will feature a free hot, full-course meal and music. Reservations are not required.

Applications taken for Tweed scholarship
      The New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium/New Jersey Sea Grant (NJMSC/NJSG) has announced the opening of the application period for the 2009 Stew Tweed Fisheries and Aquaculture Scholarship. The fund was established in memory of Stew Tweed, a veteran of the New Jersey Sea Grant Marine Extension Service, who passed away in 2007.

Strides for Hope runners, walkers sought
      The Wellness Community (TWC), Eatontown, is forming Strides for Hope teams of walkers and runners for various events in 2009. Beginners are welcome, and cancer survivors are encouraged. The nonprofit TWC serves the residents of Monmouth and Ocean counties with free programs of cancer support, education and hope.

Area residents graduate from Fire Academy
      The Monmouth County Fire Academy, Howell, graduated 58 volunteers from classes 78 and 79 of the Firefighter I program Dec. 10. Members attended weekend classes at the academy, and completed more than 130 hours of course work.

Little Silver Garden Club enlivens town
      The Little Silver Garden Club (LSGC) has completed several service activities during the holiday season. Members decorated Little Silver borough buildings, and made the wreaths for Little Silver Borough Hall, library and police headquarters, as well as the window boxes at the train station. Members also made baskets to adorn the office counters inside the buildings.

Entries taken for 2009 poster contest
      Entries are now being accepted from students in grades two through 12 the 2009 Conservation Poster Contest sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, State Soil Conservation Committee, the New Jersey Association of Conservation Districts and the local Soil Conservation Districts.
