Police warn: Don't let solicitors enter home

OCEANPORT - Solicitors have recently been going door to door in the borough and police are concerned about potential break-ins.

Borough police are strongly advising residents that they should never allow people unknown to them to enter their residence.

The Oceanport Police Department is advising residents that young females have recently been going door to door soliciting for their church and the cancer society.

While soliciting, the women have requested to use the phone or bathroominside the residence.

Although no reports have beenmade regarding thefts to these residences, entering homes while soliciting has been an indication of possible future criminal activity, according to borough police.

Oceanport has a solicitation ordinance that requires anyone who wants to solicit to register and have an ID issued by the police.

Anyone with information or questions regarding solicitors should contact Oceanport police at (732) 222-6300.
