NOTES AROUND TOWN

Eagle Scout Erik Kamp, Boy Scout Troop 50 scoutmaster Don Eddy and Eagle Scout Sam Moeller at an Eagle Court of Honor at the Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury on Jan. 5. Kamp, a sophomore at Red Bank Regional High School, created a "Pawsway" and benches for the Monmouth County SPCA in Eatontown. The Pawsway allows people adopting pets to become familiar with the pet and provides pet walkers a place to rest. Moeller, a sophomore at Christian Brothers Academy, rehabilitated the yard and grounds of a newly finished Habitat for Humanity house in Red Bank, adding to the neighborhood's safety and aesthetics.
Dr. Michael Zimmerman, volunteer curator at Battleship New Jersey Museum, Camden, will present "The Battleship New Jersey and Museum: Past, Present and Future," Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. at Monmouth Beach Cultural Center, Ocean Avenue. He will discuss the career of the battleship as a warship and museum ship. Launched Dec. 7, 1942, one year after the Pearl Harbor attack, the ship is supported by a full-time staff, industrial sponsors, and volunteers. A DVD will also be shown. Cat show veteran Peaches, a rescue cat who competes in the Household Pet Category, is shown with cat show judge Sharon Roy. The Feline Forumof GreaterNewYork will host its annual Cat Show March 1 and 2 at the Asbury Park Convention Center. Up to 225 pedigreed cats will be competing, along with a selection of local household pets, for the title of Best in Show. Visitors will be able tomeet breeders and exhibitors from around the country, as well as their beautiful cats, while strolling through the benching area. Vendors will be on hand with a range of items for cats, including high-quality foods, toys, cat trees and grooming products. Help support SNAPS (Spay Neuter and Protect Strays) by bringing a cat food donation, receive $1 off admission and be entered for a chance to win $50. Show hours are 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sunday.

The Oceanport Garden Club will meet Feb. 28, at The Old Wharf House, EastMain Street, Oceanport. A business meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m., followed by lunch at 1 p.m. and a program on recycling in Monmouth County by Fran Metzger of the Monmouth County Planning Board.
