RBR to hold AIDS benefit LITTLE SILVER - The Red Bank Regional (RBR) CARES club will sponsor its sixth annual AIDS Benefit at the high school Commons March 7 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The evening will feature RBR student vocalists, dancers, actors and spoken word artists. The purpose of the event is to promote HIV/AIDS awareness and the impact upon our youth of this disease, which has no cure. The event is being directed by two junior vocal majors in the RBR Visual and Performing Arts Academy and is produced by CARES Club Adviser Stacy Liss. CARES, an acronym for Compassion, Awareness, Respect, Education and Support, was founded over a decade ago by a grieving RBR student who sought to bring some meaning to the death of a family member from the AIDS virus. Admission to the event is $7, and $5 for students and senior citizens. Proceeds will benefit Broadway CARES/Equity Fights AIDS and The Center of Asbury Park, two organizations that support those living with HIV and AIDS. CARES educates and promotes awareness among the RBR student body and compassion, respect and support is fostered through activities like the distribution of red ribbons to all students on World AIDS Day and the annual AIDS Benefit by which students contribute to the care of people living with HIV/AIDS and support research for a cure. Former club members and RBR graduates have since started sister CARES clubs at their respective universities and through the organizations many other students have become activists and crusaders in HIV/AIDS and human rights awareness. RBR encourages attendance at what promises to be a most enjoyable and enlightening evening for a very worthy cause.
