Red Bank teen creates winning centennial logo

RED BANK - The winner of the borough's Centennial Logo Contest is a fourthgeneration borough resident who is working toward a future in graphic arts.

Fourteen-year-old Alexis Holiday is currently an eighth-grade student at the Red Bank Charter School.

She is a member of the National Honor Society and was recently informed that she has been accepted into the graphics communications program at Red Bank Regional High School.

Incorporated in 1908, the Borough of Red Bank is celebrating its centennial year in 2008. Acommittee of volunteers has been working to coordinate events to mark the celebration, including a parade and community picnic that will take place May 17.

As part of their efforts, committee members had asked for submissions of a design to complement the existing borough logo for use during the centennial year. Eight submissions were received and reviewed by the committee.

Holiday's design incorporates an image of an iceboat on the Navesink River within a gold circle and features a banner noting the years 1908 and 2008.

Mayor Pasquale Menna noted in his original announcement of the contest that the centennial logo would not be intended to replace the existing seal, but would serve to complement it during the centennial year.
