NOTES

TheRedBankCharter School ran its own version of the Alaskan dog-sled race known as the Iditarod. The race startedMarch 1, as did the charter school's competition known as the "Iditaread." The Iditaread brought the school community together to reach a variety of reading goals during the time the mushers competed in Alaska. Every student in grades kindergarten through eight kept a reading log that recorded time spent reading, being read to or reading to someone else. Goals were set for school-wide accomplishment, classwide accomplishment and individual accomplishment based on the amount of time spent reading.

A large bulletin board outside the library tracked the race in Alaska, as well as the progress of the students and school. It also highlighted the "lead dogs," or the students in each gradewho spend themost time reading.
