R.B. police arrest man on weapons charges

RED BANK - A 23-year-old Little Silverman was arrestedMarch 16 after he allegedly was found to be in possession of numerous weapons, including a loaded 9 mm handgun, according to the Red Bank Police Department.

Devon T. Cashes was apprehended by Red Bank police officers after it was reported that his car struck a parked vehicle on Madison Avenue.

Cashes was then arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) and allegedly was found to be in possession of a straight razor knife, according to a police press release.

Inside his vehicle, a loaded 9mm handgun and a set of brass knuckles were recovered by police, according to the press release.

It is also alleged that Cashes, while at Red Bank Police headquarters, was found to be in possession of a controlled dangerous substance believed to be cocaine, which he attempted to destroy, according to police.

Cashes was then taken to Riverview Medical Center for treatment, and he allegedly began to threaten the hospital staff, according to police.

Subsequent investigation by police revealed that Cashes had also hit a parked vehicle on Spring Street prior to hitting the car onMadisonAvenue, according to police.

Cashes was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a handgun in a motor vehicle, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon for the brass knuckles and straight razor, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, tampering with evidence, terroristic threats, DWI and numerous other motor vehicle offenses, according to the release.

Cashes' bail was set at $192,500 by Judge William Himelman, and he was committed to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold Township, according to the March 19 press release.
