Vehicle stuck on tracks hit by train

RED BANK - A northbound NJ Transit train struck a vehicle stuck on the railroad tracks at the intersection of Newman Springs Road and Broad Street on April 25, according to Red Bank Police.

Jennifer Saavedra, 27 of Toms River, had been driving the vehicle, a 2008 Toyota Corolla, south on Maple Avenue and then made a left going down the railroad tracks, according to anApril 28 Red Bank police press release.

Saavedra then became stuck on the tracks and had to be physically removed from the vehicle by an unidentified civilian prior to the arrival of police, according to the release.

Shortly after her removal from the vehicle, a northbound train struck the vehicle at about 9:25 p.m., according to the release.

There were no injuries, and the investigation was turned over to the NJ Transit police, according to the release.
