Christ Church History Day May 17

SHREWSBURY - Christ Episcopal Church will share its deep historical heritage as a local landmark during History Day celebrations Saturday, May 17.

Festivities at the church, located at the corner of Sycamore Avenue and Route 35 in Shrewsbury, will center around two events. One is a graveyard tour with costumed actors relating the stories of intriguing individuals interred in the graveyard. Since the graveyard dates to 1706, these stories are not only those of the individuals but also those of the borough and Monmouth County. The tour will take place at 10:30 a.m. Tour tickets are $10 for adults and free for children under age 12. Reservations are suggested.

The second event showcases the church's exquisite set of 19th-century stained-glass windows that are the focus of an ambitious restoration effort. Arthur J. Femenella, Branchburg, a leading national authority on stainedglass restoration and consultant for the Christ Church restoration project, will give a free lecture on the historic windows at 3 p.m.

The church is part of the historic Four Corners of Shrewsbury, which also includes theAllen House, a county historic site, the Quaker Meeting House and the Presbyterian Church.
