Mr. Whelan, 46, of Tinton Falls, died Jan. 15, 2009, at home. He was employed in the building industry, and prior to that, at his family's business, Whelan Pontiac, for 20 years. He is survived by his fiancée, Christine Padalino; his mother and stepfather, Barbara and Sal Martelli; his father and stepmother, George and Susan Whelan; five brothers and two sisters-in-law, John and Christine Whelan, Christopher and Larson Whelan, Sal Whelan, Edward Whelan and Matthew Whelan; a sister, Laura; his paternal grandmother, Gertrude McAllister; his maternal grandmother, Jessie Whelan; and his niece and nephews. Interment was at Monmouth Memorial Park Crematory. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.
