Monmouth University's Performing Arts Series will present Ragamala Music & Dance Theatre Saturday, Feb. 21, at 8 p.m. in Pollak Theatre on the West Long Branch campus. This evening of new work showcases Bharatanatyam, the ancient classical dance of southern India. Tickets $35. A Journey through India: VisualArt and Dance Workshop will be held 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, in Anacon Hall. Fee: $10 for Ragamala Music & Dance ticket purchasers / $20 all others. In celebration of Black History Month, ArtsCAP presents "Kay Harris and Friends, From Amistad to the White House" at the Asbury Park Galleria 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21. Admission is free. The event will feature a wide variety of visual and performance pieces bringing the entire Civil Rights Movement to life.

In addition to a photo exhibit, the event will include: storytelling by Lorraine Stone and Kati Beddow Brower, and "The Negro Life in Asbury Park 1910-1950" presented by Sharon Lucas and Sharon Harris. Lucas will read writings by her mother, Arnetta Thompson, about growing up in the early 1900s and the segregation

she encountered. Harris will share writings by and about her grandfather, the renowned sand sculptor Lorenzo Harris, who also distinguished himself as an activist, politician and publisher of black history literature. On display will be a photographic montage of President Barack Obama's inauguration.
