Science symposium April 1, 2 at Mon. U.

Monmouth University, West Long Branch, will host the 47th annual Monmouth Junior Science Symposium at 9 a.m. April 1 and 2 at the university's Pollak Theatre. The symposium is co-sponsored by Monmouth University, Fort Monmouth and Naval Weapons Station Earle.

The technical sessions include presentations of student research papers and two guest speakers. Speakers include Michael Treder of the Center for Responsible Nanotechnology presenting "Nano-Guns, Nano- Germs, and Nano-Steel"; Monmouth's Dr. William L. Schreiber presenting "The Chemistry of Fragrance Ingredients"; and Monmouth's Dr. Steven Kosiba presenting "Horizons of Empire: Recent Archaeological Research on the Inca Civilization."

More than $340,000 in scholarships and cash awards are presented to regional and national winners. Students and teachers will also be able to participate in the general poster session/student science scavenger hunt and compete for prizes 1-3:30 p.m. April 1 at the university.

Student paper presentations will be given by local students Moyukh Chatterjee, Tanay Gavankar, Jeffrey Hart and Joshua Ma, all students at High Technology High School, Lincroft section of Middletown. Student poster presentations will be given by Steven Castellano, Andrew Chien and Janie Gu, all students at High Technology High School.
