      Birding, fishing, beach sweep at Hook

      Gateway National Recreation Area, Sandy Hook, will host "Birding for Beginners," presented by naturalists from the New Jersey Audubon Society, 10 a.m. April 5.

      Monmouth County Audubon Society will hold a spring bird walk 10 a.m. April 11. A surf-fishing clinic will be 8 a.m. April 25. Staff from the American Littoral Society (ALS) will lead the day of fishing and instruction on the beach. There is a fee, and reservations are required. For reservations, call Jeff at 732-291-0055.

      A Clean Ocean Action spring beach sweep will be 9 a.m. April 25 beginning at parking area e. Volunteers are needed to help rid the beach and waterway. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 732-872-0111 or visit www.cleanoceanaction.org.
