Postal service hits resident on his blind side Imailed a birthday card to a friend in Pennsylvania after affixing standard first-class postage. The envelope was 5.25 inches by 5.25 inches. It was a simple card with no voice capabilities. The card was returned to me, and the reason stated was "Returned for 20 Cents Postage Due to Non-Standard Size-Surcharge 20 Cents." I asked my mailman what he thought was the cause, and he was at a loss for an explanation, since it looked fine to him. I then called the postal service and was told that the card was "square" in size (i.e., 5.25 by 5.25 inches) and that classified it as nonstandard in size. If it was "rectangular," that would have been fine. Surely Hallmark and other card manufacturers should contact the postal service for a better understanding of postal rules.
Just when you thought you heard them all, they hit you with one on your blind side. |
