'Making Trouble'
Adocumentary film that tells the story of some of the greatest female comic performers of the last century will be screened at 7 p.m. Thursday at Congregation B'nai Israel in Rumson.
"Making Trouble" features Molly Picon, Fanny Brice, Sophie Tucker, Joan Rivers, Gilda Radner and Wendy Wasserstein. Hosted by four of today's funniest women — Judy Gold, Jackie Hoffman, Cory Kahaney and Jessica Kirson - the film is a delightful saga of three generations of funny Jewish women. Using archival photos, film clips and interviews with biographers and other experts to recount the stories of these female trailblazers, the film moves from vaudeville, the Yiddish theater and the Ziegfield Follies to the Borscht Belt, Broadway and "Saturday Night Live."
"Making Trouble" was produced by the Jewish Women's Archive, a national nonprofit that chronicles the stories, struggles and achievements of Jewish women in North America.
The "Film and Nosh" sponsored by the library and adult education committees at CongregationB'nai Israel is open to the public and costs $10, which includes a light deli nosh. To attend the screening, RSVP by April 20 to rsvp@cbirumson.org or call 732-842-1800.
Founded in 1922, Congregation B'nai Israel is affiliated with United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. Located at 171 Ridge Road, Rumson, the synagogue currently serves over four hundred families from many towns in Monmouth and Ocean County.
