Roey Hadar, an eighth-grade student at Rumson Country Day School, competed against more than 100 other semifinalists in the New Jersey Geographic Bee competition on April 3. He placed first and will take part in the national competition in May in Washington, D.C. Not only did he place first, but Hadar also won the competition with a perfect score. The state competition was sponsored by Google and Plum Creek.

Photographer Kim Levin, Little Silver, will hold book signings 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Paw Palace, 19 W. Front St., Red Bank; and 2-4 p.m. at Barnes and Noble at The Commons at Holmdel, 2134 Route 35, Holmdel. She will sign copies of the book she shot photos for, and written by Christine Montaquila, “FRENEMIES: Cats, Dogs, and Lessons in Getting Along.” The book gives an inside look at how our furry domestic friends manage to coexist on the same planet and still live happily ever after. Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, and Red Bank Borough Public Schools will sponsor a free Community Day & Health and Wellness Fair 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. April 25 at Red Bank Middle School, 101 Harding Road. The fair will offer free blood pressure, cholesterol, body mass index, and stroke assessment screenings with Riverview staff. There will also be giveaways, refreshments, health information, a Wii tournament, and a visit 10-11 a.m. from Dr. Bernard from the Pawsitive Action Team. A marriage enrichment workshop will be hosted at St. George's-by-the-River Episcopal Church, 7 Lincoln Ave., Rumson, 3:30 p.m. April 26. The workshop will be led by the Rev. Peter Stimpson of Trinity Counseling Service, Princeton. Married couples and singles are welcome. The traditional evensong with clergy and choir will follow at 5 p.m., and will include the renewal of wedding vows. A reception will follow. The sixth annual Scouts Fight Cancer Pancake Breakfast will be held 8 a.m. to noon April 26 at the Fair Haven Firehouse, River Road. One-hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit the Walsh Family Charitable Foundation, which supports a variety of breast cancer causes. The First Baptist Church of Red Bank will welcome the Rev. Fran Trascritti, evangelist pastor, of Cincinnati, Ohio, for its revival weekend, "Certain Answers for Uncertain Times." Services will be at 7 p.m. on May 1 and 2, and at 10:30 a.m. on May 3, and will include music, drama presentations and other activities. Child care will be provided. The Seniors of Little Silver will hold their second annual gift auction at 1 p.m. on May 26, at the clubhouse, Church Street. Members may donate new items or articles in perfect condition, or themed baskets for the auction. Desserts and beverages will be served. The group's annual picnic lunch will be held June 23 and will feature a sing-a-long and usedbook sale. Membership is $10 per year and is open to county residents age 55 and older. Garden State Daylily Growers Club will present "Daylilies for Northern Rebloom" at 2 p.m. April 26 at Deep Cut Gardens, Red Hill Road, Middletown. A short "meet and greet" with guest speaker Mike Huben, a daylily hybridizer, will be held at 1:30 p.m. He will focus on rebloomers or varieties that bloom two or three times during a growing season. Rock'n Music Academy, 500 Route 35 south, Middletown, will hold its fourth annual spring concert at 2 p.m. April 26. The free concert will feature Academy bands and solo acts of all ages, levels and styles performing classic and contemporary rock songs as well as original material. Ranney School, Tinton Falls, held its 22nd annual Panther Ball at Ocean Place Resort and Spa, Long Branch, in late March, raising $300,000. The event drew 350 guests and featured dinner and the recognition of Dr. Daniel Goldberg for his many years of service to the school. Proceeds benefit the school's educational and social programs, professional development and phase two of the foundations for learning initiative.
