More than 3,000 runners from around the world are expected to participate in what has become one of the Jersey Shore's most popular road races. In addition, thousands more participate in the pre- and post-race events held on June 12 and 13.

"The Doc" has been called the "father of the running boom" in the United States, according to the press release.
