'Edge of the Day: Watercolors'

An exhibition of color-saturated watercolor paintings by internationally known artist Graham Nickson is at the Main Gallery at the Monmouth Museum.

"Red Uluru with Storm Clouds and Rain" "Red Uluru with Storm Clouds and Rain" "Edge of the Day: Watercolors" will run through Aug. 30 at the museum, located on the campus of Brookdale Community College in Lincroft.

Over the past decade, Nickson has followed the sun, from Australia to Florida to Italy, painting both figures and landscapes with intense, saturated, glowing colors. "Edge of the Day" features more than 30 of these works from his wide-ranging travels.

Nickson often works at dawn or dusk, capturing the subtleties of atmosphere and light when sunlight seems most spontaneous and dramatic. These luminous compositions are representational, yet abstract, and his use of color and light evoke the work of Fauve and Impressionist painters.

Nickson was born in Lancashire, England, and has worked, traveled, exhibited and taught extensively in the U.S. and abroad. He has been a faculty member and Dean of the New York Studio School since 1988.
