St. Thomas AME Zion Church, Pine Brook Road, Tinton Falls, which will celebrate 195 years in Tinton Falls in 2010, will hold its community yard sale fundraiser Aug. 15 beginning at 8 a.m. In addition to the sale, there will also be a display of fire apparatus from the borough fire companies and the grilling team from the Pine Brook Fire Company cooking ribs and chicken dinners. Oil painter Mary Ann Viola has her exhibit "Treasured Memories" displayed at J.W. Ross Cultural Arts Center/Library, 1097 Ocean Ave., Sea Bright, during August. The show includes many examples of children at play on the beach. Library hours are 10 a.m.- 7:30 p.m., Monday; 3-7:30 p.m., Tuesday; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Friday; and 9 a.m.- noon Saturday. The Sandy Hook Child Care Center (SHCCC) invites local families to Gateway National Recreation Area Sandy Hook for a Day at the Beach Open House 4-6 p.m. Aug. 26 at the SHCCC on Pennington Street, Sandy Hook. The free event will include arts and crafts, jewelry making, refreshments, and a chance for families to meet teachers and tour the facility. The 2009 Holiday Express golf classic held in mid July raised $65,000 for the Holiday Express scholarship program. The scholarship program has provided financial assistance to students who would not otherwise be able to further their education. The nonprofit Holiday Express delivers music, food, gifts, financial support and friendship to those with the greatest need during the holiday season and throughout the year. Dairy Queens in Clarksburg, Freehold, Lincroft, Toms River and Tinton Falls will host the fourth annual North American "Miracle Treat Day," Aug. 13, with $1 or more from every Blizzard sold donated to Children's Miracle Network, a nonprofit organization that raises money for children's hospitals. Proceeds from Blizzard sales in this area will benefit Children's Specialized Hospital, a Children's Miracle Network hospital. Red Bank residents interested in participating in the second annual Townwide Yard Sale can call the Red Bank Department of Public Works at 732-530-2770 for information and an application. The event will take place 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 12, rain or shine. Last year's event featured 130 yard sales throughout the borough.
