Entries sought for film festival
      The Garden State Film Festival, Asbury Park, is accepting entries from independent filmmakers, with the deadline for submissions Dec. 1. The 2010 festival will be held March 25-28 at the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park. Entries will be judged in several categories, including a category for trailers added this year.

Blue Star Mothers Costume Dance Oct. 3
      Blue Star Mothers Chapter No. 1, State of New Jersey, will present the first Costume Dance 7-11 p.m. Oct. 3 at American Legion Post No. 346, 21 Gully Road, Neptune. The dance is a benefit for military personnel, veterans and their families. Attendees are encouraged to come in costume, and there will be cash prizes for first-, second- and third-place costumes.

Kickoff, Bike for Basie to be Sept. 25, 26
      A kickoff reception for Bike for the Basie, a fundraiser for Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank, will be 6-10 p.m. Sept. 25 at Ichabod's, Ocean Avenue, Sea Bright. It will feature complimentary food and beverages to cyclists taking part in the biking event Sept. 26 at Fort Hancock, Sandy Hook. Registration will be 8-9 a.m., the ride begins 9 a.m., and a picnic 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Classic car show Sept. 26 in Holmdel
      The Monmouth County Concours d' Elegance classic car show to benefit Embrace Kids Foundation will take place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 26 at Hop Brook Farm, 953 Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Admission is free. The show will feature competitions, awards, and a parade of winners. There will be classic cars as well as a display of future classics and luxury cars.
